Lower Back Pain and Pilates

Over 60% of the adult population reports having Lower Back Pain (LBP). Unfortunately, nearly half of these adults will continue to report these symptoms for over 3 months after onset.

At Thrive Physio, LBP is a condition that we see daily. Often times it can come on from improper lifting techniques, to poor office set ups. As practitioners, we are constantly monitoring the latest evidence based research to ensure we deliver the best care.

A recent paper has shown that patients that have started an exercise program like pilates to help target their core muscles (AKA abdominals and back muscles) have better outcomes versus patients who only engaged with rest and walking. The paper also showed that patients with LBP have delated activation of these core muscles, which can further attribute to their poor lifting technique.

At Thrive Physio, we offer Pilates classes to help increase the strength and activation of these core muscles. Our classes are kept at a small group size to ensure your technique is spot on.
